Generate test codice fiscale numbers
Fictional numbers with correct check digits, for testing software. They may by chance match a real person's number, so never use them to identify or impersonate anyone.

How a codice fiscale is structured
- Characters 1-3: consonants of the surname; 4-6: of the first name.
- Characters 7-8: year of birth; 9: month as a letter (A=January … T=December); 10-11: day of birth (+40 for women).
- Characters 12-15: municipality or foreign country of birth (Belfiore code).
- Character 16: check letter.
- To avoid duplicates ('omocodia'), digits can be replaced by the letters L M N P Q R S T U V.
How the check works
Using the published example RSSMRA85T10A562S:
Characters in odd positions (1st, 3rd, … 15th) are converted with a special table (e.g. A=1, B=0, C=5, 0=1, 1=0); characters in even positions count as their value (A=0 … Z=25, 0=0 … 9=9). For RSSMRA85T10A562 the odd positions give 80 and the even positions 42, together 122. 122 mod 26 = 18, and letter number 18 (A=0) is S.
A passing check only means the number is well-formed; it doesn't prove the number was issued to anyone.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a woman's codice fiscale have a day above 40?
