The Norwegian fødselsnummer is an 11-digit number: date of birth, an individual number and two check digits. D-numbers (for temporary residents) are also accepted.

Runs entirely in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Generate test fødselsnummer numbers

Fictional numbers with correct check digits, for testing software. They may by chance match a real person's number, so never use them to identify or impersonate anyone.

How a fødselsnummer is structured

How the check works

Using the published example 151086 95088:

First check digit: weights 3-7-6-1-8-9-4-5-2 on the first 9 digits give 223; 11 − (223 mod 11) = 8, so it is 8. Second: weights 5-4-3-2-7-6-5-4-3-2 on the first 10 digits give 201; 11 − (201 mod 11) = 8, so it is 8. If either result is 10, the number can't be issued.

A passing check only means the number is well-formed; it doesn't prove the number was issued to anyone.
